Internship Program at the IDB

Our internship program runs twice a year, offering intensive, full-time opportunities:

  • Winter Internship: January 16 – March 15

  • Summer Internship: June 16 – August 15

  • Applications open about three months in advance.

During your internship, you’ll work closely with teams providing solutions to clients from the public and private sectors.

Internship Requirements

To apply for an IDB internship, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Citizenship:

    • For Washington, D.C. internships – be a citizen of one of our 48 member countries (no restrictions for IDB Invest).

    • For Country Offices – be a citizen or legal resident of the host country.

  • Enrollment: Active undergraduate (3rd year or higher) or graduate student with at least 50% of coursework completed.

  • Availability: Full-time (40 hours per week) for the program duration.

  • First Job Rule: This must be your first job with IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

  • No Relatives: Applicants must not have family members working at the IDB Group.

Required Documents

  • Resume (updated).

  • University enrollment letter (issued within the last three months).

  • Academic transcripts (official or unofficial, issued within the last three months).

Young Women in Tech Program

At the IDB, we also invest in diversity and gender equity. Our Young Women in Tech Program provides one-year entry-level opportunities for women trained by Laboratoria Bootcamps in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a citizen of an IDB member country.

  • Be between 21 and 33 years old.

  • Graduate of a Laboratoria Bootcamp (web development or UX design).

  • Available to work full-time (in Washington, D.C., or remotely, depending on the role).

  • First job with the IDB Group.

  • No relatives employed at IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Applications open annually, and candidates may apply for up to three positions.
