About the Workshop

Afrobarometer, a leading pan-African survey research network, is dedicated to enhancing data collection, analysis, and utilization skills across Africa. By empowering African researchers, policy actors, and civil society representatives, Afrobarometer aims to strengthen their roles in policy development and decision-making.

The Afrobarometer Emerging Scholars Workshop is designed to foster analytical capacity among early career researchers while building mentoring networks across African research institutions. This initiative will also provide valuable professional development opportunities for African scholars.

Workshop Structure

The workshop will feature three key components:

  1. Paper Presentations: Selected participants will present their papers or research designs. Each presentation will last 10 minutes, followed by 50 minutes of feedback from a panel of academic mentors and peers.
  2. Professionalisation Sessions: Experienced academic mentors will deliver 45-minute to 1-hour sessions on key aspects of building a successful academic career. These sessions will offer practical advice on professional development within academia.
  3. Roundtable Conversations: After each presentation, there will be moderated roundtable discussions. Mentors will share their experiences and engage in interactive Q&A sessions with the audience, providing emerging scholars with insights into academic career building.

The workshop is open to:

Applications must be in English, and successful candidates will also present in English. Afrobarometer encourages applications from young people, nursing mothers, and individuals with disabilities.
