Africa Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Offers Internship Opportunities for Recent Graduates in Kenya

The Africa Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is dedicated to providing internship opportunities for recent postgraduates. The AERC Internship Programme aims to develop and prepare participants for employment in research, policymaking, and capacity-building institutions. This initiative also offers an excellent opportunity for interns to gain work experience, expand their knowledge, refine career goals, and establish professional networks. In return, interns support AERC’s research, capacity building, and policy outreach efforts.

Programme Duration and Benefits

The AERC Internship Programme lasts between 3 to 6 months, after which interns are encouraged to pursue opportunities in the broader job market. The programme also serves as a talent pool for potential future employment at AERC.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the AERC Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Master’s degree in one of the following fields:
    • Economics
    • Statistics
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Development Studies
    • Mathematics
    • Gender Studies
    • Governance and Knowledge Management
    • Accounting, Finance Administration, Procurement, or HR Management (for general support roles)
    • ICT
    • Communication & External Relations
  • Age: 30 years or younger at the time of application submission.
  • Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen or have legal documents allowing work in Kenya.
  • Communication Skills: Proficient in English, with additional proficiency in another language, such as French, considered an advantage.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work in a timely manner. Female candidates are encouraged to apply.

Terms and Conditions

  • Interns are responsible for their travel to and from AERC’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as their living expenses.
  • Interns must have their own medical insurance coverage for the duration of the internship.
  • Interns will receive a monthly stipend.
  • The internship may include participation in AERC assignments.
  • The internship can be conducted remotely or on-site, depending on departmental needs.
