Calling Young African Artists: Participate in the Disaster Risk Reduction Art Competition 2024

In celebration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) 2024, themed “Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future,” we are thrilled to announce the launch of a Youth Art Competition. This competition invites young artists, both amateurs and professionals, to create and submit art that reflects the IDDRR 2024 theme, raising awareness about Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

About the Competition

The submitted artwork will be showcased at the Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, taking place in Windhoek, Namibia, from 21-24 October 2024. This competition, organized by the Africa Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB), the Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), aims to enhance the awareness and understanding of DRR among young people. It also seeks to foster creativity and artistic expression on the theme of DRR.

Theme: “Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future”

Participants are encouraged to create art that explores various aspects of DRR in alignment with the African Regional Platform’s (AfRP) theme, “Act Now for the Resilient Africa We Want.” This is an opportunity for young artists to express their unique perspectives on how to build resilience against disasters and contribute to a safer, more sustainable future.

Who Can Participate?

This competition is open to young individuals aged 18 to 35 from across Africa. We aim to amplify their voices and experiences, recognizing their critical role in documenting and responding to climate and disaster challenges.

How to Apply

To participate, please complete the Microsoft form with the required details about the artist and the art piece. You must include a link to a digital version of your artwork (e.g., via Google Drive or YouTube) that can be downloaded.
