Overview: The U.S. Foreign Service Internship Program (USFSIP), established in 2014, offers a unique, merit- and needs-based opportunity for undergraduate students to gain firsthand experience in U.S. diplomacy. This program consists of two paid summer internships, providing students with a blend of professional and academic growth while exploring career opportunities at the Department of State.

Eligibility Criteria:

Program Structure:

  1. First Summer (2025): A 10-week internship in Washington, D.C., including three weeks of orientation and seven weeks of policy work at the Department of State.
  2. Second Summer (2026): A 10-week assignment at a U.S. embassy or consulate overseas.
  3. Intervening Year: Students must maintain their GPA and take the Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT).

Security Clearance Information: Obtaining a security clearance is essential but may take up to 150 days, especially for candidates with extensive foreign ties or other complicating factors. The clearance process could delay or prevent participation if not completed in time.
