Overview

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is thrilled to announce the launch of its 2025 Immersion Program for Young Graduates. This prestigious program provides young professionals from ECOWAS member states an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the workings of ECOWAS institutions, contributing to regional development and gaining valuable experience in their chosen fields.

Program Objectives

Primary Goal:
The primary aim of the immersion program is to enhance the professional integration of young graduates by offering them hands-on experience within ECOWAS institutions. Participants will gain insights into the organization’s programs and play a key role in their implementation.

Specific Goals:

  • Service Immersion: Provide participants with an in-depth experience within ECOWAS services, including its various Institutions, Agencies, Departments, and Resident Representations.
  • Program Contribution: Allow young graduates to actively contribute to major ECOWAS programs, supporting their implementation across the region.

Expected Outcomes

  • Professional Development: Participants will acquire vital professional experience, building skills that are crucial for advancing their careers.
  • Program Impact: Graduates will contribute directly to the successful implementation of ECOWAS programs, ensuring tangible benefits for the region.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to young graduates from the 15 ECOWAS member states who are aged 32 or younger. This program is a unique chance to be part of the regional integration process and contribute to significant projects that shape the future of West Africa.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of an ECOWAS member state.
  • Education: Must hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate, or equivalent degree.
  • Required Documents:
    • A formal request to the ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, outlining the applicant’s motivation, profile choice, preferred immersion location, and commitment to the program’s terms.
    • A detailed CV (in PDF format).
    • A copy of the applicant’s national ID card or passport (in PDF or JPEG format).
    • A copy of the academic diploma(s) or equivalent (in PDF format).

Program Details

  • Duration: The program lasts for 12 months (non-renewable).
  • Location: Immersions will take place across ECOWAS Institutions, Agencies, Resident Representations, and other designated locations.
  • Reporting: At the conclusion of the immersion, participants must submit a report to the Department of Human Development and Social Affairs (DHAS), the host department, and retain a copy for themselves.
  • Participation: The program requires in-person attendance. Participants are also expected to attend mandatory meetings, either in person or online if they are not based in Abuja.

Coordination

The program will be coordinated by the Directorate of Education, Science, and Culture within the Department of Human Development and Social Affairs. For further details, applicants should review the attached Terms of Reference and the list of available positions.
