University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” Junior and Senior Fellowship Programme 2025

The University of Bayreuth’s Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” promotes outstanding research and fosters international collaboration. The Centre is now accepting applications for its 2025 Fellowship Programme, which is open to scholars from all disciplines.*
Fellowship Details:
- Senior Fellowships: €40,000 Award
- Junior Fellowships: €20,000 Award
These fellowships provide recipients with financial support to cover the costs associated with their research projects. Additionally, Fellows accompanied by at least one child are eligible for a monthly family allowance of €250.
Program Goals:
The Centre aims to break down barriers across disciplines, cultures, and generations. It encourages the exchange of ideas between established and emerging scholars and supports initiatives that connect the research community with broader societal and political issues. Successful applicants will benefit from the dynamic research environment at the University of Bayreuth and its seven faculties.
Experience Bayreuth – Collaborate with a Local Host:
Fellows will research with a local host at the University of Bayreuth. Before applying, candidates must identify a researcher at the university who will serve as their host. The host will provide office and lab space and access to the latest infrastructure. The fellowship duration is flexible, ranging from three to six months, and may be divided into several stages.
Candidate Requirements:
The fellowship is awarded to international scholars with innovative, high-quality research projects through a rigorous, merit-based selection process. The key selection criteria are the applicant’s academic excellence and the proposed project.
The Centre values diversity and is committed to gender equality. Female scholars and individuals who can enhance the university’s research diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.

Short Term Grants Programme 2024

The Bayreuth Humboldt Centre (BHC) is offering Short Term Grants for 2024 to foster international research collaboration at the University of Bayreuth. These grants are open to scholars from all disciplines.*
Grant Details:
- Short Term Grants: Intended for stays of 1-3 weeks
- Coverage: Travel expenses and accommodation costs, up to a maximum of €3,500
These grants cover the costs associated with travel and accommodation, allowing researchers to engage in short-term projects at the University of Bayreuth.
Program Goals:
The BHC promotes academic exchange across disciplines, cultures, and age groups. Applicants are encouraged to explore the University of Bayreuth’s research strengths and focus areas.

Grantees will work on their research projects with a local host at the University of Bayreuth. Applicants must identify their host before submitting their application. The host will provide the necessary office or lab space and access to the university’s state-of-the-art infrastructure.
Candidate Requirements:
The Short-Term Grants are awarded to international researchers with exceptional and innovative projects. They are selected through a competitive, merit-based process. The main criteria are the academic quality of the applicant and the project.
