Location: Remote/Home-Based (with reliable internet connection)
Contract: 6-Month Consultancy (with the possibility of extension)

About the Institute

The International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) is a respected, independent, non-profit humanitarian association founded in 1970, based in Sanremo, Italy. The Institute is renowned for its training programs in international humanitarian law, human rights, refugee law, and related fields. It also promotes global dialogue through high-level conferences, meetings, and seminars involving government officials, scholars, and practitioners.

The Department of International Refugee Law and Migration Law at IIHL focuses on enhancing the knowledge and skills of professionals working with refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), stateless individuals, and migrants. By offering capacity-building initiatives and facilitating experience exchange, the Department advocates for the protection of human rights in alignment with the goals of international organizations and civil society.

IIHL holds consultative status with ECOSOC, participatory status at the Council of Europe, and observer status with the UNHCR ExCom and the International Organization for Migration.

Role Overview

The Junior Collaborator will play a vital role in supporting the Academic Unit of the Department. This position involves assisting with various operational tasks, including research, preparation of educational and promotional materials, and facilitating online learning sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Academic Engagement and Outreach:
    • Maintain and update a database of academic institutions focused on forced displacement and statelessness.
    • Develop materials that highlight and promote the Department’s academic and training initiatives.
  • Course Design and Implementation:
    • Assist in creating and updating learning materials, including presentations, handouts, and exercise sheets.
    • Provide support during live sessions, including managing group exercises and offering technical assistance.
    • Coordinate communication with facilitators and manage meeting schedules and follow-ups.
    • Create and manage course pages on the Department’s learning management systems.
    • Handle administrative tasks related to course implementation, such as participant and facilitator lists.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and other documents for the Academic Unit.
  • Official Travel:
    • Travel to Sanremo or other locations as required to assist with course delivery and related activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in or completed a degree in social sciences, with a preference for international law or international relations.
  • Up to 2 years of work experience, including internships.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and discretion.
  • Excellent social and communication skills, with a proactive and professional attitude.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and graphic design tools like Canva and Photoshop.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
    • Proficiency in another official UN language (Russian, Arabic, French, Spanish) is a significant asset.
