Call for proposals: RWJF’s Initiative on Race and Ethnicity Data
Since 2015, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has led efforts to improve the collection, analysis, and reporting of race and ethnicity data. Their goal is to promote data equity, ensuring underrepresented populations are accurately considered in policies, resource allocation, and programs.
Current federal standards often group people into broad categories, obscuring diversity within populations. For instance, the 20 million Asian Americans in the U.S. come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, making it essential to collect detailed data to inform effective policies and health outcomes.
RWJF is funding a research project to develop recommendations for categorizing Asian American subgroups more precisely. This effort aims to enhance data disaggregation, allowing better-targeted resources and improved health and social services.
Eligibility:
- RWJF encourages collaboration on this project, but only one organization can serve as the lead contact. The lead must focus on research or have a strong internal research department.
- Detailed descriptions of all collaborating organizations are required in the proposal.
- Awards will be granted to organizations, not individuals, with preference given to public entities or nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3).
- Applicants must be based in the United States or its territories.
Key dates:
- July 15, 2024: Brief proposals open.
- August 13, 2024 (3 p.m. ET): Brief proposals due.
- September 11, 2024: Invitations for full proposals.
- October 9, 2024 (3 p.m. ET): Full proposals due.
- November 20, 2024: Funding notifications.
- January 15, 2025: Grant begins.
Funding
RWJF will fund one award up to $800,000 for a 24-month period.
