About UN University

United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS)

Established in 2001, UNU-CRIS is one of UNU’s research and training institutes. Its mission is to enhance understanding of regional integration and cooperation processes and their implications in a changing world order. UNU-CRIS specializes in comparative studies of regional integration and the interactions between regional organizations and global institutions. Since October 2016, UNU-CRIS has been collaborating with Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University.

Responsibilities

This internship offers the chance to lend your voice and expertise to an international team working to produce policy-relevant research on pressing global issues.

  • Develop the Institute’s social media presence.
  • Assist in copyediting and disseminating research outputs.
  • Produce content for various social media platforms.
  • Draft publication and event announcements.
  • Manage and produce content for the UNU-CRIS website.
  • Collaborate on UNU-CRIS newsletters.
  • Report on events, both virtually and in-person.

Strengthening the voice of UNU-CRIS’s work and finding the right platforms to share it is your core task during your time with us in Bruges.

Profile, Required Qualifications, and Experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a master’s degree or equivalent in communications or languages, with a focus on international relations.
  • Exhibit excellent written command of English.
  • Efficiently manage a variable workload.
  • Possess excellent computer skills and web literacy.
  • Be a good team player with strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to diversity.
  • Regularly attend the office in Bruges.

Desired:

  • Relevant experience in an international setting.
  • Familiarity with Africa, Asia, or Latin America.
  • Familiarity with the UN system.
  • Knowledge of Dutch or other UN working languages.
  • Experience with Adobe products and/or Drupal.

About UNU Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS)

Responsibilities

Part-time (80%), reporting to the Financial and Administrative Officer:

Financial and Administrative Support:

  • Assist the Financial and Administrative Officer.
  • Handle procurement.
  • Administer internships/CTCs.
  • Support business travel administration.
  • Liaise with IT subcontractors.
  • Assist with asset management and building maintenance.

General Administrative Support:

  • Assist the Management Assistant.
  • Administer the library.
  • Assist with institutional correspondence.
  • Organize events.
  • Onboard Research Interns and Visiting Research Fellows.
  • Occasionally support the Policy and Communications officer.
  • Provide occasional editing support for publication projects.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Timely, accurate delivery of accounting processes and reports.
  • High-quality administrative services.
  • Effective resolution of queries.

Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • Completion of Secondary Education or Bachelor/Technical Bachelor in management assistant, accounting, business administration, or related field.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years (Secondary education) or 2 years (Bachelor Degree) of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize work and multitask.
  • Strong collaboration and team skills.
  • Passion for the mission of the United Nations and UNU.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the Flemish administrative environment.
  • Familiarity with the UN administrative system.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Working knowledge of Dutch.
  • Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset.

Remuneration

UNU offers an attractive, tax-exempt compensation package including an annual net salary, 30 days annual leave, dependency benefits, pension plan, and health insurance scheme.

Duration: Part-time (80%), fixed-term appointment initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal.
Expected Start Date: October 2024 (tentative).
