Introduction: Welcome to the Walking the Talk Consortium’s Call for Papers for the “Financing for Feminist Futures” conference. We are excited to invite (aspiring) feminist researchers, feminist academia, and feminist civil society groups and movements—especially from the Majority World—to submit research proposals that will shape our forum planned for late spring 2025 in Spain.
Your Mission: If you are passionate about strengthening and financing alternative feminist futures, this call is for you! Join us in mobilizing the power, knowledge, and networks of feminists dedicated to creating and financing alternative futures.
Overview: In early July 2025, Spain will host the fourth international conference on Financing for Development, supported by the United Nations. This high-level event aims to transform the global financial architecture to address development funding challenges amidst geopolitical uncertainty, widening inequality, and growing poverty. Financing for Feminist Futures aims to bridge gaps by mobilizing feminist power, knowledge, and networks to create and finance alternative futures.
Our Goals:
- Launch the publication of a financial Common Ask Framework outlining the necessary resources to achieve gender equality goals and priorities, focusing on resourcing feminist movements in the Majority World.
- Solidify and grow the feminist ecosystem, involving civil society organizations, academia, think tanks, women’s funds, and grassroots groups.
- Share and amplify research results, experiences, tools, and opportunities for improving gender-transformative financing with leaders and decision-makers.
Your Profile: We invite researchers, academics, and civil society groups to submit collaborative and advocacy-focused research proposals. Submissions should address potential solutions within one of the four research tracks outlined below.
Research Tracks:
- Show us the (public) money:
- Explore public funding, including Official Development Assistance (ODA), taxation, gender bonds, climate financing, and other public financial flows. Investigate alternative public money flows to support feminist organizations and movements.
- Show us the (private) money:
- Examine the role of private sector philanthropy in financing gender equality and feminist movements. Address the ethical dilemmas and sustainability of private sector funding for feminist objectives.
- Time to change (or break?) the rules:
- Focus on transformative approaches to address global inequalities and crises. Research new concepts and ideas like the Purple Economy, the care economy model, and gender-responsive taxation to reimagine our economic and financial systems.
- Changing the story:
- Challenge traditional patriarchal structures in foreign policy and diplomacy. Advocate for transformative feminist foreign policies that prioritize gender equality, human rights, and social justice, and develop inclusive and intersectional feminist narratives.
Selection Criteria:
- Proposals should be concise, with a maximum of five pages, including budget, bibliography, and references.
- Link research to concrete advocacy asks or recommendations with a tangible impact on the intended audience.
- Engage with civil society groups, where relevant.
- Encourage applications from feminist civil society groups and movements from the Majority World, as well as young researchers.
- Demonstrate commitment to feminist research principles and innovative thinking.
- Researchers can participate in multiple projects but can only lead one.
Timeline:
- 4 June: Launch of Call for Papers
- 13 June: Questions and Answer Session
- 30 June: Final day to submit proposals
- 15 July: Notification of selection results and feedback
- 31 July: Submission of revised paper and contracting
- 1 August: Research start
- 28 Feb 2025: Deadline for final submission of research paper
Funding:
- The budget per research project is up to 25,000 Euros.
- We prioritize projects from the Majority World and ensure diversity in age, ethnicity, language, gender, and regions.
- Quality research will earn an invitation to the Financing for Feminist Futures conference.
How to Apply: Submit your proposals in English, French, or Spanish (max five pages plus CVs). Include the rationale, key learning questions, stakeholders, research methods, proposed outputs, timeline, and requested budget. Apply by 30th June 2024. Send questions to walkingthetalk@centreforffp.org.
