About The Wilson Center’s Africa Program: The Africa Program at The Wilson Center is committed to tackling the most pressing challenges in Africa and U.S.-Africa relations. Through comprehensive research, in-depth analysis, and engaging public discussions, we strive to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between Africa and the United States. Our work encompasses a wide range of topics, including politics, economics, culture, and public policy, with a focus on providing practical solutions to complex issues.
Position Responsibilities: As a Senior Program Associate, you will play a pivotal role in managing the Africa Program’s projects, operations, and partnerships. Your responsibilities will include:
Project and Program Management (35%):
- Collaborating with the Program Director to establish strategic priorities and administrative direction.
- Overseeing internal program operations, including grant activities and timelines.
- Leading the planning and organization of conferences and events in Africa and the United States.
- Supervising Africa Program interns and providing financial oversight support.
Programmatic Research and Content Development (35%):
- Driving thought leadership on African affairs and U.S.-Africa relations.
- Conducting specialized research on relevant topics and preparing written materials for publication.
- Serving as a resource for event moderation, media requests, and external publications.
- Managing the program’s website and ensuring consistency in branding.
Outreach and Partnerships (30%):
- Supporting engagement with key stakeholders, including Congress, the U.S. government, and peacebuilding organizations.
- Developing outreach strategies and identifying new partners aligned with program priorities.
- Managing collaborations with peacebuilding organizations and other entities in Africa.
- Representing the Africa Program in high-level meetings and managing alumni engagements.
Qualifications: To be minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate:
- At least one year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, including research on African affairs, fundraising, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in managing projects, conducting research, and developing written materials for publication.
- Familiarity with website management and social media platforms.

Salary and Location: This position offers a competitive salary range of $99,200 to $128,956 per year (GS 12) and is located in Washington, DC. Telework may be eligible as determined by agency policy, with occasional travel required for conferences and program activities.
