Empowering Indigenous Peoples’ Economic Development through International Trade: Call for Proposals

International trade holds immense potential for innovation and economic growth, yet Indigenous Peoples have often been marginalized from its benefits. However, there’s an opportunity to change this narrative and empower Indigenous communities through trade. If you’re an organization passionate about supporting Indigenous entrepreneurship, here’s your chance to become a #SmallBusinessChampion!

Why it Matters

Indigenous Peoples are stewards of diverse cultures and vast natural resources, yet they face numerous challenges in accessing the benefits of international trade. From insecure rights to economic marginalization, there’s a pressing need to support Indigenous communities in realizing their economic potential.

The Opportunity

The World Trade Organization (WTO), in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), invites proposals to empower Indigenous Peoples’ economic development through international trade. This initiative aims to raise awareness, promote best practices, and foster innovation in trade-related activities that benefit Indigenous communities.

We’re seeking innovative proposals that:

  • Raise awareness about the challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples in international trade.
  • Promote best practices in trade, business innovation, and resilience.
  • Offer capacity building, training, and mentoring programs tailored to Indigenous entrepreneurs.
  • Have a clear international trade angle and involve the active participation of Indigenous Peoples.

  • Provide a detailed concept, aim, timeline, and other relevant information.
